I know what Smarzowski tried to do here, and I support it. But I don’t really like the execution, no matter how important the topics tackled.(Brace for a long and slightly spoilery one below)
I want to preface everything by saying that I do not consider this film in any way anti-Polish or wrong to say the things it does. Like many countries, Poland has unsavoury history which it hasn’t fully dealt with, and it still has ways to go in terms of things like LGBTQ+ issues and racism. I don't think there's anyone in modern polish cinema whose new films fill you with honest to god excitement quite like Smarzowski. He had his ups and downs, yes, but there isn't anyone else in Poland at the moment who's capable of making actual artistically interesting, unique and brutal films with strong social messages while also being extremely popular with general audiences (his 2018 movie Clergy, the 3rd most successful film to come out in Poland past 1989, is probably the best example of his controversial topics working very well at marketing them as well).

Ten film ma zero subtelności. Od początku mówi wprost że będzie rozliczał nas i z naszej historii i z teraźniejszości. Smarzowski wrzucił tu wszystkie najgorsze cechy współczesnych Polaków i umieścił fabułę na potencjalnie wybuchowym wydarzeniu - Weselu. Bo wiadomo gdzie dużo Polaków i alkoholu to będą też awantury.
Film zaczyna mnóstwo różnych wątków związanych z weselem i jego uczestnikami, ale ich nie zamyka.
Może dlatego że tak naprawdę skupia się na wątku historycznym. Wątku gdzie chory na demencje dziadek panny młodej wspomina (czy raczej przeżywa ponownie) swoją młodość w przedniu drugiej wojny światowej. Mamy wątek zakazanej miłości ale przede wszystkim rosnącą nienawiść i kampanię dehumanizacji obywateli
żydowskich która prowadzi do ich wybicia. Lubimy się chwalić bohaterskimi obywatelami którzy ratowali innych… -
