Why Trace Cyrus is Accusing Katy Perry of Copying Sister Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus' brother Trace Cyrus just threw a wrecking ball toward Katy Perry's career.

The 36-year-old has accused the "Wide Awake" singer of copying his sister, 32, with regard to her hairstyle transformations and musical choices while also throwing shade at her recent trip to space with aerospace company Blue Origin.

"She cut her hair off, and it broke the internet, and everybody freaked out, and she bleached it blonde," Trace said about Miley's 2012 pixie cut in an April 18 Instagram video before reciting a fictional conversation between Katy and her team: "'We should do that with you, Katy.' Katy's like, ‘Yeah, yeah, we should. Should we do it? Like, slightly different? No, we're gonna do it exactly the same.’"

Katy, who debuted a platinum blonde pixie cut between 2017 and then grew out her hair and dyed it back to her signature black color in 2021, has not responded to Trace's remarks, nor has Miley, who in 2017 gushed about her long friendship with the fellow singer.

E! News has reached out to reps for both singers and has not heard back.

Trace then imitated another fictional conversation between Katy, 40, and her team. "'We're gonna get you in with the hottest group, the Migos,'" he joked, referring to their 2017 song "Bon appétit." "'You're gonna do exactly what the f--k Miley did and blow up.'"

He continued, "Guess what? It didn't f--king work. And then they just tried some EDM song or some s--t because EDM is hot. Didn't f--king work. Now we're gonna send you’re a-- to space. Didn't f--king work. It's not working. It's backfiring. Stop."

Trace made his comments days after Katy—who collaborated with DJ Alesso on the 2021 EDM song "When I'm Gone"—joinedJeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez,Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientistAisha Bowe, activistAmanda Nguyenand film producerKerianne Flynn on a trip to the edge of space in what marked the first all-female spaceflight in more than 60 years.

Katy and fiancé Orlando Bloom's daughter Daisy, 4, watched the launch while donning a silver astronaut costume. Inside the spacecraft, while floating for a few minutes in zero gravity, the singer held up a real daisy.

While many have praised the group over their mission, Trace is not the first to publicly criticize Katy. Martha Stewart seemingly shaded the all-female Blue Origin crew witha throwback clip posted to Instagram April 17.

In the footage, shot in 2007, Martha said she "experienced what astronauts feel when they reach zero gravity" aboard a Boeing 727 called G-Force One as she floats around the aircraft. The 83-year-old then quoted the opening lyrics to Katy's hit "Firework," asking, "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind?"

In addition, Emily Ratajkowski,Olivia WildeandOlivia Munn have voiced their displeasure with the costly Blue Origin space trip.
